Mark Britton

The Owner of Britton Outdoors

Britton Outdoors is a small, local business that has developed because of my passion for the outdoors and being active. I was lucky to be able to get a job share role which enabled me to set up Britton Outdoors in May of 2020. I am delighted to say that it was a fantastic choice and I am really enjoying being outdoors meeting so many friendly and like-minded people.

Initially, my passion for the outdoors, adventure and exploring led me to complete a diploma in Outdoor Adventure Management and I haven’t looked back since. I have worked in numerous adventure centres throughout Ireland teaching sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, mountain biking and hiking. I made the decision to head back to the books and signed up for a degree in the Lake District to study Outdoor Professional Practice.

Over the last number of years, my work slowly became office-based and I realised that I wasn’t getting to spend time with people in an outdoor setting and missed it.

Once I came to this realisation the next logical step was to set up a business focused on teaching and guiding people in the outdoors and to encourage everyone to get out and explore the wonderful mountains, forests and rivers we have right on our doorstep.

I am lucky to have had a wide variety of jobs within the outdoor industry from adventure centre instructor roles to developing a sail training academy for 16-18year olds and onwards to managing a QQI level 5 course in Outdoor recreation. The QQI course was fantastic in that I got to work with the same people for 9 months, training them to become instructors and using the outdoors as a means to develop confidence and increase self-esteem.

I am always looking at new ideas, challenges and ways to develop hair-brained ideas (some of which need to be curtailed 😊).

I currently focus on running mountain navigation courses for people that are interested in heading out to the hills to explore. These courses are run with very small groups and there is lots of one-to-one tuition.

A truly professional and engaging mountain leader. If you are planning a hike with family over the next few weeks keep This business in mind. It will be a very enjoyable and memorable day. Enjoy.
